FAQ

If you do not find the answer to your question here, please feel free to email us at:
info@syracuseyouthchorus.org

What will the weekly time commitment be for SYC?

The time commitment per week will be one rehearsal a week. There will also be at least 1 concert per semester. For each of those concerts we will have 1-2 dress rehearsal(s) beforehand depending on the scope of the concert/who we are collaborating with.

What are the outside requirements to be in the choir?

1. You must participate in your school’s choral program and be in good standing. Your choral education does not stop at our door, and we expect and encourage you to go out and be the leaders of your school’s choral program.

  • If your school does not have a choir, or you are homeschooled, we will of course make other arrangements. This is partly why we ask what school you go to.

2. Unless extenuating circumstances arise, rehearsals are mandatory! We do not have much time to get our repertoire learned and rehearsed. To miss even one rehearsal you undermine the choir’s performance. We will be working on a varied and challenging repertoire, and all hands must be on deck so that we can strive towards the excellence that is in all of us. You must attend all rehearsals for the good of the group.

Can parents volunteer?

Yes of course! We will need lots of help with logistics, especially making sure singers get safely to their parents/guardians every week. Other examples are dress rehearsal/concert chaperones, concert ushers etc. We will be sending out an inquiry to sign up to volunteer, but in the meantime, please feel free to reach out over email: info@syracuseyouthchorus.org

What is the cost to enroll in SYC?

We are working to bring this opportunity to as many students as possible, and will be assessing our costs to provide an amazing experience as affordable as possible. We are also working to find grants to offset the cost of running the choir, so that we can have more low-to-no cost scholarships available. We will be sure to update this FAQ site with any developments.
